Prof. Gozie Offiah, Presidential Representative, Ireland
Gozie Offiah is Associate Professor of Surgery and Director of Curriculum at RCSI, leading transformative initiatives in curriculum design and delivery. A surgeon with over 15 years’ practice in the Health Service Executive, Ireland; Gozie holds other national and International positions including Non‑Executive Director of MPS, Chair of the MPS Foundation, and Accreditation Commissioner for ACCM. Gozie is the President‑Elect of the International Association for Communication in Healthcare (EACH).
Judy Chang, Planning Committee Chair, United States
Judy is an obstetrician-gynecologist and clinical researcher at the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. Her research focuses on patient-clinician communication, particularly regarding sensitive or stigmatizing topics such as intimate partner violence and prenatal substance use. She has been a member of the Academy of Communication in Healthcare (ACH) since 2003 and served on the ACH Board in various capacities including as President in 2021 and 2022. She joined EACH in 2023 when she served on the ICCH 2024 planning committee as the ACH representative and has been thrilled to learn from and work with the many amazing international colleagues in EACH.
Claudia Kiessling is a medical doctor by training with a master degree in Public Health, working as a full professor at Witten/Herdecke University, Germany since 2018. She has been involved in teaching and assessment of clinical communication for the last 25 years with a focus on undergraduate medical and dental education. She has been involved with EACH activities since 20 years and is actually member of TEACH, subgroup assessment.
Associate Professor of Oncology in the Wayne State University School of Medicine and Program Co-Leader of Population Studies at the Karmanos Cancer Institute (KCI) in Detroit, Michigan, USA. She is also the faculty director of KCI’s Medical Interaction Research Archive. Dr. Hamel has been involved with ICCH since 2012, including serving on the planning committee for several meetings, and serves as the EACH National Representative for the USA.
Marcy Rosenbaum, PhD is Professor of Family and Community Medicine and Faculty Development Consultant for the Office of Consultation and Research in Medical Education at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, USA. She has been actively involved in teaching, curriculum development and conducting research on clinician-patient communication and health professions education for the more than 30 years. She is a former president of EACH: International Association for Communication in Healthcare and past Chair of tEACH, the teaching committee of EACH.
Dr Emmanuel Oladipo MBChB MSc (Medical Humanities) is a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Communication at the University of Manchester. He has been a member of EACH, and the early career committee for 5 years. Alongside his role in teaching communication skills and a holistic approach to patient care, his interests lie in the intersection between the creative arts and medicine. He uses spoken word poetry as a part of his personal and professional practice and has now developed a workshop called 'Poetic Reflection', that equips participants to write and share reflective pieces. As well as representing the experience of early career researcher and educators, he is excited to bring a creative lens to the planning committee
Dr India Pinker is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Ageing Cancer and Disparities Research Group at the Luxembourg Institute of Health. She has been an active member of EACH since 2021 and currently serves as Chair of the Early Career Subcommittee and Co-Chair of rEACH. Her research focuses on qualitative investigations of empathy, intercultural information exchange, and tailoring public health communication in diverse settings and populations
Thokozani Nyawasha is a PhD researcher at Ulster University whose work focuses on improving health behaviours through digital health communication. She is a health and social care professional with over 13 years’ experience across public health programmes, monitoring and evaluation, and community-based service delivery. Her background includes national-level health communication initiatives, programme coordination, and stakeholder engagement.
Conor is Associate Professor and a co-head of Program for the Bond University Medical Program. Conor is passioate about teaching communication skills to medical students, with a focus on embedding empathy and patient centred conversation into the 'content' work of consultations. Conor is an educator and researcher, and chairs pEACH with a dream of ensuring patient centred communication is taught and implemented at all levels of health professions training and practice.
She is a Senior Lecturer in Health Communication within the School of Communication and Media, and also a member of the Institute for Nursing and Health Research (INHR) at Ulster University, Belfast.
Anne is a Registered Nutritionist, Public Health (RNutr), and a professional background in Public Health.
She has experience working in clinical and consultancy in the areas of public health. She teaches healthcare communication, research methods and mental health and well-being. Her research interest is in healthcare communication, in particular communication relating to obesity and mental health. This includes the use of digital communication tools to support health professionals’ and patients’ interactions.
Anne has been a member of EACH from 2008, and a member of rEACH committee from 2012. She was awarded the International Association for Communication in Healthcare (EACH) Fellowship (2024).
