Lowbury Lecture
Joost Hopman
The 2025 Lowbury Lecture will be delivered during FIS International 2025 by Dr Joost Hopman. Joost is currently working as Head of Department of Medical Microbiology and Infection Prevention and Control at the University Medical Center Groningen in the Netherlands and is appointed as adjunct professor at the University of Lagos, Nigeria. He acted more than 6 years as medical director of the Radboud University Medical Center in the Netherlands. He is trained and specialized in medicine and medical microbiology, tropical medicine, infection prevention and control and health care management at the University of Utrecht, Radboud University Medical Center, Liverpool University and Harvard Business School.

Christopher Parry
Christopher Parry is a Visiting Professor in Clinical Tropical Medicine, Centre for Tropical Medicine and Global Health, University of Oxford and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM). He trained in medical microbiology, infectious diseases, and tropical medicine and lived and worked in Vietnam, Cambodia, Bangladesh the Philippines, Japan and currently Kathmandu, Nepal. He teaches at LSTM and in the School of Tropical Medicine and Global Health, Nagasaki University, Japan.
BIA Barnet Christie Lecture
Daniel Pan
Dr Daniel Pan is an NIHR Doctoral Research Fellow and Infectious Diseases registrar at the University of Leicester and University Hospitals Leicester. His work brings together clinical research, diagnostics and public health to understand how respiratory viruses spread and how we can better protect vulnerable communities. Daniel’s current research focuses on simple, practical tests that measure how infectious someone really is to help stop outbreaks before they start.
