Value of award: £100
Aim of prize:
The aim of this prize is to reward undergraduate students who have recently completed clinical, research or project work in paediatric dentistry.
Entry criteria:
This competition is open to all undergraduate dental and dental care professional students. Students are expected to seek guidance of their supervisors/tutors prior to submitting their abstracts. There are governance issues around publishing case reports and clinical governance projects and therefore supervisors’ approval is essential to ensure compliance to the abstract submission guidelines. A letter confirming this approval is required to accompany all submissions. Abstracts will initially be appraised by the selected members of the Teacher’s Branch and up to ten entries, which best meet the entry criteria and standards, will be selected to present at the Teacher’s Branch Study day. Participants will be expected to register and attend the study day to present their poster. They will have to prepare a 2 minute presentation to be delivered by their poster and answer questions from the judges. Applicants who are not selected for this prize but meet the overall acceptance criteria will be invited to present their poster as a non-prize poster in the main conference.
7. Poster (Non-prize category)
If you are not submitting to any of the above prize categories, but would like to be considered to present a poster at the conference, you should select this category. Abstracts will still be reviewed by the Conference Abstract and Prize Committee (CAPC) to ensure high quality standards are maintained. Entrants for prize competitions who are not selected as finalists will be reassigned to this category. You will need to produce an electronic version of your poster for display at the conference and will need to be present to answer any questions about your poster, but will not have to formally present it.
Publishing of Abstracts
Accepted abstracts will be published by Wiley in the International Journal of Paediatric Dentistry in a special BSPD supplement.
The text of the abstract, along with the names and affiliations of authors will be published in The International Journal of Paediatric Dentistry, on the conference website and book of abstracts, and any poster, powerpoint presentations and/or additional documents may be published as requested and by submitting an abstract presenters agree that this will not raise any copyright issues.
Presenters may be recorded for live streaming. A recording of the presentation and a copy of the slides may be published online after the conference.
It is expected that, in keeping with normal publication protocol, the first author (the presenting author) has made the greatest contribution to the work described. All co-authors must have approved the abstract submission. Furthermore, no abstract should have been presented previously at a National or International scientific meeting or have been published. The presenter must register for the meeting or Teacher’s Branch Study Day. Failure to do so, after acceptance of an abstract, may result in the abstract being withdrawn.
Preparation of Abstracts:
Failure to adhere to the detailed format for abstract preparation will result in the rejection of the abstract.
The online abstract submission system is a simple step by step process and will ask you to input the following details:

For the undergraduate prize, we require a letter from the supervisor confirming the following:
