Call for Abstracts

The Scottish Intensive Care Society events team invites abstract submissions for SICS 2025. All members of the multidisciplinary team (and students) are welcome to submit an abstract for electronic poster presentation. Top abstracts will be invited for oral presentation.

We are accepting submissions in the following categories:

  • Original research
  • Quality Improvement / Audit / Patient Safety
  • Clinical cases

CLOSING DATE for submissions: 5pm on Wednesday 12th March 2025

As a reminder the terms & conditions of submission are: 

  • Throughout the abstract submission process, communication will be limited to a single designated contact. This individual is presumed to be the presenting author and will receive all correspondence. You have therefore stated that they are the presenting author as part of your submission. If the presenting author changes, the replacement presenter must be a named author on the original submission.
  • At least one author must be registered in full to attend the conference and present the paper.
  • All named authors must be aware of the submission.
  • Abstracts will be judged on the novelty, importance, and impact of the work.
  • For original research / quality improvement and audit submissions please comment on ethical / regulatory approval as appropriate (e.g. ethics / audit committee, R&D / Caldicott Guardian approval).
  • For case reports: written consent must be sought from patients who have data used in either a case report or case series. Please see SICS website for more details and to download the form.
  • Submissions of the abstract constitutes the consent of all authors to publication (e.g. conference website, programme, other promotions, etc.)
  • The decision of judges is final. There is no appeals process.
  • All presenters will be provided with a certificate of presentation. 
  • Successful abstract submissions will receive email notification no later than Monday 3rd February. 
  • Invited posters should be submitted in PDF format (landscape 16:9) no later than Friday 11th April.
  • Oral presentations will be 6 minutes duration with 2 minutes of questions. There will be a prize for the winning oral presentation.
