Welcome to the second edition of the “WSCTS International Heart Valve Congress”
The treatment of Aortic and Mitral Valvular conditions has changed dramatically in the last two decades. Alain Cribier revolutionised the treatment of Aortic Stenosis by introducing TAVI in 2002. Newer transcatheter interventions for mitral conditions are allowing many more patients to benefit.
This meeting will focus on all aspects of the Aortic and Mitral Valves including Diagnosis, Investigations, Surgical and Non-Surgical Treatments, Timing of Treatment, Infective Endocarditis. There will be a special emphasis on TAVI. Some of the top authorities in the field of TAVI, and Aortic and Mitral Valve Disease will be faculty at the meeting.
The meeting will be of interest to Cardiologists, Cardiac Surgeons, Anaesthetists, General Practitioners, and Medicine of the Elderly.
All abstracts presented at the meeting will be published in the “Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery”. The meeting has CME approval (11 CME points).
It will be Spring in Edinburgh in February, and this is perhaps the best time to visit Edinburgh. Edinburgh has a number of other attractions, and we would be delighted to see you here for the Second Edition of the “WSCTS International Heart Valve Congress”

Dear colleagues,
On behalf of the WSCTS, I would like to welcome you to the Second Edition of the International Heart Valve Congress, in Edinburgh. This is one of the many educational activities undertaken on behalf of the Society.
Technological progress in our specialty is advancing very rapidly. Possibly this is nowhere better seen than in the role of catheter management of aortic valve disease. Though initially used only in high risk patients it is fast becoming the treatment of choice for aortic stenosis.It is essential for those in our specialty to keep up to date with our evolving field. This meeting brings together all the top experts in cardiology, and cardiac surgery; multidisciplinary working is the way forward, and nowhere it is more apparent than in the field of transcatheter valve management. The program has been designed to cover all aspects of the Aortic Valve.
On a social note, Edinburgh is a beautiful and historic city. February there is a beautiful time of year, and there many places to see and visit, including historic buildings, religious sites, and ancient tombs. The food, wine and nightlife are legendary.

I am delighted to welcome you to the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh for the International Heart Valve Congress this February. It is a pleasure for such a prestigious society to visit the oldest Royal College of Surgeons in the world and I hope you will have the time to visit our world renowned museum and, of course, the campus in general. The College is always delighted to welcome multidisciplinary meetings and the development of interventional cardiology and cardiac surgery has been so important to improving outcomes. This meeting is indeed very prestigious and clearly all the major influencers in Trans Catheter Aortic Valve Implantation are here on the programme.
I look forward to meeting everyone during the course of the conference and hope you all have the time to visit this historic and beautiful city.
