Mr Mick Allen, Consultant/Hon. Senior Lecturer in Sedation and Special Care Dentistry, Cardiff and Vale UHB/Cardiff University

Mick Allen has had a portfolio career in dentistry. He has been a GDP and practice owner leading to the UK's first emplyee-owned GDS practice; a clinical teacher; a Postgraduate Tutor and advisor to Cardiff and Vale UHB and Welsh Government. He was part of the All-Wales Dental Clincial Leadership Covid19 Group. He has been a Clinical Director for CDS and a CIC in England and is now a Consultant/Hon. Senior Lecturer in Sedation and Special Care Dentistry. Outside of work he enjoys cycling, sea-kayaking and gardening.


Dr Prabhleen Anand, Eastman Dental Hospital, London 

Ms Prabhleen Anand has been an NHS Consultant and Honorary Clinical Lecturer in Paediatric Dentistry at RNENT & The Eastman Dental Hospital, University College Hospitals NHS Trust, London since the last 18 years. Her areas of special interest are  sedation, oral surgery, hypodontia, autotransplants, trauma and general anaesthesia. She is the lead on IV sedation & advanced sedation, hypodontia and general anaesthesia. She is also a faculty member on SAAD where she teaches paediatric sedation. She has been Deputy Chair of Paediatric Dentistry MCN for London over the last 3 years and recent past Chair of BSPDSE branch. She is dually specialised in Oral surgery and Paediatric dentistry.


Prof Lars Andersson, Senior Professor Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon, Malmö University, Sweden

Senior Professor Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Malmö University, Sweden. Published more than 200 original research papers receiving more than 13000 scientific citations, Editor of five international textbooks plus chapter author in several textbooks in the fields of Trauma and OMFS. He was Editor-in-Chief of the Medline-indexed scientific journal, Dental Traumatology from 2007-2015 and President of the International Association of Dental Traumatology (IADT) 2011-2014.


Mr Saty Bhatia, Consultant, Cardiff and Vale UHb 

Saty Bhatia is consultant Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon at University Dental Hospital and University hospital of Wales, Cardiff. He leads head and neck Vascular Malformations MDT for South Wales.He has both paediatric and adult  surgery practice  in all areas of Maxillofacial surgery. He is chair of the senior Dental and Medical staff committee for Cardiff and vale UHB.


Dr Margherita Fontana, Professor, University of Michigan, US 

Margherita Fontana, DDS, PhD, is the Clifford Nelson Endowed Professor of Dentistry in the Department of Cariology, Restorative Sciences and Endodontics at University of Michigan School of Dentistry (U-M). She is Director of the Global Initiatives Program in Oral and Craniofacial Health at the School of Dentistry. She is currently co-director of Cariology courses, and cariology discipline co-coordinator at U-M. As a principal investigator, she has received research grants associated with cariology from the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, the American Association of Pediatric Dentistry, the Delta Dental Fund, DentaQuest, and private industry amongst others. She has over 160 papers published in peer reviewed journals, such as Journal of Dental Research, Caries Research, Journal of Dental Education, Pediatric Dentistry, Advances in Dental Research, Journal of Public Health Dentistry, Journal of the American Dental Association, British Dental Journal, etc. She was the 2007-2008 President of the Cariology Group of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR), the 2010-2011 Chair of the Cariology Section of the American Dental Education Association (ADEA), and the 2016-2020 President of the American Academy of Cariology. She is currently the 2021-2023 Vice-President of the European Organization for Caries Research (ORCA), and has been Co-Chair of the Alliance for Cavity Free Future (ACFF) Canada-US Chapter since 2015. In 2012 she received the USA Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) for her work on caries risk assessment in children. She was the 2009 winner of the IADR Cariology Research Group Basil G. Bibby Award in Cariology, and in 2016 winner of the IADR Burrows Memorial Award.


Prof Nicola Innes, University of Cardiff

NICOLA P T INNESPhD, BDS, BSc, BMSc, MFDS (RCS Eng), FFDRCSI, MFGDP (RCS Eng)Head of School of Dentistry and Interim Head of School of Healthcare Sciences, Professor and Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry, Cardiff UniversityI initially qualified as a Registered General Nurse, then gained a BSc in Life Sciences followed by an intercalated BMSc in Cellular/Molecular Pathology and BDS(hons). I spent 7 years as a General Dentist in Scotland then completed a PhD based on a randomised control trial investigating the Hall Technique at the University of Dundee. With over £8M grant capture, and 150 publications in peer reviewed journals, my research is internationally recognised within cariology (minimally invasive dentistry), paediatric (Child Friendly) dentistry, marginalised communities and evidence based dentistry and I have led NIHR funded UK-wide child dental health research projects, practice-based research, participated in other UK-wide trials as well as ones based in Germany, Lithuania, Australia, Brazil, US and New Zealand, co-authored several Cochrane reviews related to cariology and I sit on national guidance development groups. I co-led implementation of a new undergraduate curriculum at the University of Dundee, School of Dentistry and was Associate Dean for Learning and Teaching. I took up the position of Head of School at Cardiff University, School of Dentistry in 2020 and also Interim Head of School of Healthcare Sciences in 2024. I established the Improving Dentistry Research Group in 2021 at Cardiff University.

Mr Wynn Jenkins, Rhiwbina Dental Surgery at The Pines, Cardiff 

I qualified from The Welsh National School of Medicine in 1984. I have worked in private practice since that time with particular interest in restorative and adhesive dentistry. I have been lecturing on these subjects for over thirty years and have lectured extensively in the UK, Ireland, Europe and USA. I live in Cardiff and my native Pembrokeshire where my hobbies include cycling, walking and boating. I am married with two adult children, Emma and Huw.


Mrs Rebecca Llloyd, Programme Lead Oral Health, Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB

Rebecca has worked in the Community Dental Service since 1997 and is a registered Dental Nurse. Rebecca is programme lead for Oral Health Improvement in Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board and chair of the Designed to Smile National Operational Managers group. 


Robert Parton, Autism speaker

Rob Parton (29) is a remarkable man . Diagnosed at 3 with ASD , with almost no speech, profound sensory issues, eating issues, anxiety sleep issues and behavioural  challenges, he has overcome adversity to become a sought after international speaker. Speaking to numerous audiences including health professionals , teachers,  police and dental staff as well as parent carers  and individuals  on the spectrum , Rob will talk about his early years and some of his memories of being non verbal and some of his strategies to overcome his many numerous ongoing challenges . Rob is a supported by his mother a  registered dietitian and he is happy ( as is she)  to take unprepared questions from the floor . 


Mrs Leigh Ann Randell, MA in Academic Practice, Post Grad Diploma in HE, Post Graduate Certificate of Education, BSc in Dental Studies, Fellow of HEE, Diploma in Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy Clinical Lecturer, Dental Therapist, University of Liverpool

Leigh Ann Randell is a dually qualified Dental Hygienist and Therapist and has worked for many years in all areas of primary and secondary dental care both in clinical and managerial roles. In recent years she has obtained a BSc, PGCE, PGDip and Masters in Academic practice.Leigh Ann’s current role is a full time Clinical Lecturer at the University of Liverpool, School of Dentistry and works within the Paediatric department.  She is also the Year 2 Co-Lead and Component Lead within the Centennial Curriculum, which is a unique BDS/BSc Therapy programme, and in involved heavily in all aspects of teaching in the undergraduate programme.Leigh Ann has been in a teaching role since 2004 and has lectured externally on posture, periodontal techniques and prevention to all members of the dental profession at regional and national level.  Previously, Leigh Ann was also involved at executive council level as President and Chair in BADT for over 11 years helping to develop and advance dental therapists.


Dr Lindsy Vallayil, Assistant Clinical Director, North East London Community Dental Service, Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust

Lindsy has worked in the Community Dental Service in North East London since 2008, providing clinical care for children and adults with additional needs. Lindsy has a special interest in conscious sedation, regularly providing treatment under sedation for patients at her clinical base in North East London, where levels of dental disease and treatment need are high. Lindsy is interested in quality improvement and is involved with several QI projects as part of her role.


Miss Mary Wilson, Consultant in Dental Public Health, Public Health Wales

Mary is a Consultant in Dental Public Health in Public Health Wales, having worked in this role since 2016. She is the lead for Oral Health Improvement, including leading Designed to Smile, the national programme for children in Wales. She is Training Programme Director for Dental Public Health specialty training in Wales.


Miss Christina Worle

Christina developed a passion for Inclusion Oral Health and working with socially excluded groups early in her career, building up significant experience in this area. She is especially interested in the application of trauma informed dentistry and how to best care for patients who have suffered past traumatic past events. Alongside clinical practice in a women’s prison she is the Dental Strategy Clinical Lead for Gloucestershire ICB.
